Rain Delayed Game 4

On Monday the weather rolled into Chicago and pushed baseball out. The prognosticators in the windy city are holding out hope that the downpour will clear Tuesday just long enough to squeeze in another White Sox win. Wednesday will almost certainly bring another round of rain, but the Chicago faithful will gladly deal with that when it comes around. First, they have to get to a game five and they are in a fight for their lives. All hopes of a Houston sweep were put aside by the Game Three 12-6 thriller.

Not perhaps the traditional rivalry of the Yankees and Red Sox, the two teams certainly have a little needle at the other and that was brought into focus in two incidents in Game 3. During the game, Yasmani Grandal stoked Texan ire by seemingly interfering with a throw to the plate, and in the post game media scrum, Chicago pitcher Ryan Tepera raised the spectre of Houston sign stealing.

The two coaches, Chicago’s Tony La Russa and Houston’s Dusty Baker have a long history as well, from competitors as players, to brief teammates on the 1971 Braves roster, to famously feuding for the past twenty-odd years.

With the series at two games to one, Houston is one win away from earning a berth in the ALCS, while Chicago is in do-or-die territory. Houston has announced that they will bypass José Uquidy and start Lance McCullers in Game 4, hoping to bring some of the dominance that he showed in Game 1 to the table. On the Chicago side of the lineup sheet, Cy Young contender Carlos Rodón will take to the rubber. With the autumn weather closing in to the northern midwest, the balance could shift toward the White Sox. This promises to be a real scrap.
