Hart on Darts: It’ll be all Wright on the night

The Wizard from Down Under takes on the League leader in form and points. Peter Wright has been catching attention for his supersonic darts as well as his outrageous fashion and hairstyles – and it seems to be working. The only player left unbeaten this season looks a heavy favourite to thump the Aussie, despite Whitlock taking his first points of the season last week by hitting 7 doubles from 7. I predict it to be all Wright on the night.

Adrian Lewis v Gary Anderson

 

Lewis snatched his fourth major title as he devastated Terry Jenkins 11-1 in the UK Open final, and will look to carry that form into Week 6 of the Premier League. With the second highest televised average ever – 109 – his charge for a play-off place looks massive. Anderson himself has won 3 out of 5 and sits 4th, but I don’t think the Scot will have enough in the locker to touch Jackpot in this mood, despite beating Taylor last week.

Michael van Gerwen v Wes Newton

 

Wes Newton makes his Premier League return after dropping out last week due to tonsillitis, and if there’s one player you don’t want to face if you’re ring rusty – it’s Michael van Gerwen. The World Champion will be in an unforgiving mood after losing in the UK Open semis, and Newton may be the perfect “target practise”. It may be a closer match than many are predicting as van Gerwen is not showing quite the same finishing ability as the start of the season, but van Gerwen to edge it or a draw.

Raymond van Barneveld v Robert Thornton

 

Scottish ace Thornton drew the short straw and had to play twice last week after Newton’s withdrawal, and only managed one point out of 4 – arguably drawing the harder match. Now he plays Barney, who managed to find the darts to grab a point at the death. Thornton is playing quite well, but I feel that van Barneveld’s class will show though and he’ll take the match – just not by much.

Phil Taylor v Dave Chisnall

 

Oh Phil Taylor. If someone had told me before the season that Week 6’s meeting between Chisnall and Taylor would be a relegation fight, I’d have laughed them out of the bookies. Now it’s not so funny. Only one win in 5 sees The Power in trouble and needing a lift. Diet, darts – whatever is wrong with Taylor, he needs to sort it fast, and I don’t think it’ll be here. Chizzy will be fired up for the final four games, and I think he’ll manage  a win here.
